Dr. med. Barbara Jean-Richard

Specialist FMH for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine

Subspecialty in Developmental Pediatrics SGEP

Certificate of Competence in Psychosomatic and Psychosocial Medicine SAPPM

In March 2011, I founded Kinderpraxis Wädi and quickly built a large and trusting patient base. Today, I have the privilege of accompanying many children and families for many years – some from infancy all the way into young adulthood. This long-term guidance and the trust that grows from it are among the most wonderful aspects of my profession.

I grew up on Lake Zurich, studied medicine, and earned my medical doctorate at the University of Zurich. After gaining initial clinical experience in anesthesiology and internal medicine, my path led me to pediatrics and adolescent medicine. I completed my specialty training as a pediatrician FMH at Zurich University Children's Hospital and at Stadtspital Triemli.

From an early stage, I was deeply fascinated by child development alongside general pediatrics. At Zurich University Children's Hospital, I pursued specialized training in developmental pediatrics under Prof. Remo Largo and acquired the subspecialty certification in developmental pediatrics (SGEP). I further deepened my developmental expertise as a consultant at Cantonal Hospital Baden and as head physician for developmental pediatrics at the Social-Pediatric Center of Cantonal Hospital Winterthur. Additionally, I earned the certificate of competence in psychosomatic and psychosocial medicine (SAPPM).

Following several years of independent practice in a pediatric dual practice in Adliswil, I returned to Lake Zurich in 2011 and established Kinderpraxis Wädi in Wädenswil.

In my practice today, I combine general pediatric medicine with developmental pediatrics and psychosomatics. The child always remains at the center of my care. It is essential to me not to see a child merely from a medical perspective, but to perceive them as a whole – in their individuality, development, family, and social environment.

High medical quality is just as self-evident to me as warm, personal, and human care. I am committed to meeting every child and family with equal attentiveness, diligence, and appreciation. The great trust that families place in me – often across many years – is both a precious gift and a profound responsibility.

As a pediatrician and developmental specialist, I have found my dream vocation. Accompanying children over many years of growth, knowing their families, and supporting them through diverse life stages fills me with great joy and gratitude.

There is nothing more beautiful to me than a child's laughter. It is a gift I receive every day.

Personal

I am the mother of three wonderful children – Leonardo (1998), Federica (2000), and Riccardo (2007). They have grown into three distinctive adult personalities and fill me with immense pride.

Lake Zurich is and remains my home. I could hardly imagine life without the view over the lake. There is also a second place to which I feel particularly drawn: Sardinia. I love the island, its landscape, and its coasts, and return there several times a year.

Specialist FMH for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine

Being a pediatrician is a true passion for me. I am very much looking forward to meeting you and your children at Kinderpraxis Wädi and supporting your family with expertise, dedication, and warmth.

I grew up in Athens, Greece, where I completed my medical degree at the University of Athens. A significant part of my specialty training took place in Germany – in Essen and Datteln – with a special focus on neuropediatrics. I completed the remainder of my specialist training at one of the largest university pediatric hospitals in Athens.

Alongside my clinical work, I dedicated myself extensively to scientific research. In my doctoral thesis (PhD), I researched pediatric infectiology with a focus on vaccinology and central nervous system infections (meningitis and encephalitis). I have published my research in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at medical congresses as an invited speaker.

Prior to joining Kinderpraxis Wädi, I worked for over two and a half years as a Senior Physician (Oberärztin) at Stadtspital Triemli in Zurich, as well as in outpatient primary care in a pediatric practice in Kloten.

Switzerland has become my home, where I combine modern evidence-based medicine with caring, empathetic communication on equal terms. It is my utmost goal that both the young patients and their parents feel completely supported, understood, and comfortable.

Personal

I live with my husband, our two children – Dimitri (2022) and Marisia (2025) – and our little dog Filip in Wollerau.

In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and going swimming whenever time permits.

I work in the practice on Mondays (20% workload).
