Infant Hip Ultrasound – Kinderpraxis Wädi

Infant Hip Ultrasound (SGUM)

Hip ultrasound screening is recommended for all newborns. It is typically performed during the 1-month preventive checkup to assess whether the baby’s hip joint is mature and developing correctly (ensuring the femoral head is well-centered inside the acetabular cup).

In rare cases where immature or dysplastic hip development is detected early, non-invasive therapeutic measures such as a Tübingen hip flexion splint or Pavlik harness can be applied to ensure completely normal hip maturation.
